The Power Of The Subconscious Mind

Posted on 17th November 2008 by admin in self hypnosis

The human mind has always been as mysterious and fascinating as anything in our universe, but the investigation of the mind has become quite a topic of experimental science in recent times. This scientific approach has paid dividends as we have discovered that mental processes connect to emotional experiences and have a subsequent affect on health and disease.

As the 20th century drew to a close, we became aware that there is a phenomenal connection between what happens in our minds and the affect our thoughts have on our bodies. Much of our serious diseases are believed to have significant mental and emotional factors. Lately, some recent research on health and wellness speaks about how our minds and how visualization techniques are now being used to fight disease.

We must remember that our minds are the center of a complex nervous system. We have networks of nerve cells that run throughout our bodies while connecting every tissue to our brains. Electrical impulses pass though these internal highways at very high speeds, even jumping across narrow gaps between cells, passing data to and from our minds. Our mind itself has two parts, a conscious and subconscious. Most of us are very familiar with the conscious mind as it organizes and runs our outer life. But an alarming number of our decisions that affect our life actually come from our subconscious. The subconscious is extremely powerful and has many functions.

Let us examine some of the functions of the subconscious. To begin with, our subconscious serves as a memory bank. Unbelievably everything that we have ever experienced is stored there. The subconscious actually stores a multitude of memory patterns which will feed information to the conscious mind when activated. Data is never erased unless the subconscious mind gives that command.

The subconscious also controls and regulates involuntary functions of the body such as breathing, circulation, metabolism, digestion, hormone balance, etc. Self hypnosis is often used to affect these areas.

Another function of the subconscious is that of being the seat of all our emotions. Since our emotions dictate the intensity of our desires which affect our behavior, thus, many behavior issues have a very strong emotional content. Self hypnosis can be used to release these stored emotions.

Also, the subconscious mind is the home of the imagination. Even when not used, all of us have an active imagination that can be used to create our goals. Creative visualization done in trance is one of the greatest secrets of success.

Interesting enough, our subconscious also carries out our habitual conduct. Through the utilization of direct and indirect suggestion in self hypnosis, we can develop a system of habits that support goals.

Finally, the subconscious is what directs our energy and drives us toward our goals. Using positive reprogramming the subconscious can be directed towards creating our goals. Self hypnosis is one of the most practical and effective ways to enter the subconscious mind.

Therefore, self Hypnosis is a great way to create positive changes in your life. It can be used to change bad habits, to achieve our goals, and as we have recently discovered, it can be used to fight sickness and disease.

  1. The power of the subconscious mind and our destiny?
I have just finished reading 'The Secret' by Rhonda Byrne and 'The Power of Your Subconscious Mind' by Joseph Murphy. According to these authors, we are responsible for what happens to us through our thinking; positive thoughts attract positive circumstances. How much truth is there in this? Is our destiny preordained or do we create our reality? Is there any real evidence for this?

  2. In my experience, losers always find a way to lose. It is because they think they are losers.

  3. I believe that positive thoughts attract a positive outcome then you act on it and get what you want thus changing the outcome so yes I think it's true.

That is my evidence anyway and it works for me so I don't think that our desitiny is preordained in a way shape or form.

  7. Sometimes attitude can be attractive but it's far more important to set aside alone time. A cancer doctor encouraged his patients to participate in group therapy and wrote that it prolonged their lives but now he retracts that. The patients themselves said that it improved quality.
They have measured tibetian/buddist monks by cat scan and feel they are 15% happier. The Tibetians had 'soft' borders that excluded or isolated them by choice. If you look back at their isolation from too much technology you will find it was a restful way of life. The children were well fed and there was a lot of laughter. This has changed as their 'soft' borders have been invaded with mcdonald's and planting of the wrong crops. It's trashy now.
I practiced a lot of positive meditation but it could not consistantly effect other forces… as in doctors with their own agenda's. smile. I smile as there was a group who believed that if they accepted the holy ghost, they could have anything they wanted by just wanting it. They stopped going to work. This is way out of kilter.
Utopia even for individuals or couples will only survive a short period before outside or inner forces will effect it to no longer be the designed utopia. Perhaps if we obtain a moment or two of 'the secret'… it will be enough occassionally.

  8. Don't pay too much attention, if you think about it, just by reading these books your manipulating your destiny. I've always been of the opinion that you create your own future. Concrete interpretations of destiny only apply when a life is viewed in retrospect. Until then anything goes. Just remember, life is one big adventure. If you think that your lifes end and all the exciting moments therein are already pre-prescribed then there's not much point trying for what you really want because its easy to imagine that they are going to happen anyway. That is not the case. Work hard, have fun and make sure you enjoy yourself in what ever you want to do. These books pose interesting questions but it's up to you to determine your own reality. No body can do that for you.

  9. Hello,

(ANS) There is a huge amount of utter twaddle & rubbish talked about the mind, the brain and the powers we are supposed to have or don't have as the case may be. As a trained therapist & counselor I have studied the human psyche for many years.

First of all, the I think its very important to fully understand the human psyche, the psyche can be best understood by dividing it into three main areas.

    A) The human unconscious which we non of us have direct access to, because its NOT within our awareness. The unconscious is like a recording machine, it records and stores literally EVERY experience you have ever had in your entire life. From before birth to your last gasp of life.

    b) The sub-conscious which is an area of the psyche above the unconscious but not yet within our full awareness. Its also sometimes called the preconscious or pre-consciousness and contains much more vague ideas or half formed ideas or feelings. Many half formed dreams, image fragments, unformed fantasies, incomplete thinking, incomplete concepts, etc. Its a very creative area of the psyche. But an area which we have no control over.

    c) The conscious self i.e. our fully aware self. The self or me that knows who I am and is aware of time, space & surroundings etc.

**NOTE: What makes humans totally unique is our Reflexive awareness, we are aware that we are aware and exist in time & space.

**Human beings can only be fully responsible for that which is within our full awareness. If you are unaware of something you cannot be responsible for it.

**In reality, its my conclusion that as humans are a complex mixture of rational awareness and also many irrational responses. Yes! some degree of free will, or will power to make choices. But as humans we don't live in a vacuum and so yes! our lives are also shaped by wider events.

The dynamic reality of life's journey!!
YES! we can & do shape our own reality in part, in part we are shaped by our genes but we are also shaped by a wider reality too. A reality we have little or no control over nor any power to change.

  10. i read it too - i started putting into practise i.e everyday i state out loud how grateful i am for everything in my life and decided that what i wanted was health and wealth so i asked for more money - 3 days later a company i was in dispute with decided to honour their contract with me and sent me a cheque for £50.00 to cover my phone calls to them as a goodwill gesture - today a guy knocked on my door and asked me if i wanted to sell my clapped out old range rover ( of course i did) he gave me £200.00 quid for it - I've got to say it's working for me matey

on top of everything I'm walking around on a high since i started

it's like being spiritual without the god bit as an atheist it works for me.
