Self Hypnosis Technique: Close Your Eyes And Breathe

Many people are wondering what they can do at home to engage in self hypnosis. What self hypnosis technique, in other words, can they use to break a certain habit or to get into a positive habit of exercising or eating less, whatever it may be, they want to be able to hypnotize themselves and they want to know how to do it. The best self hypnosis technique you can try at home is to just close your eyes and control your breathing. By controlling your breathing, you are essentially slowing down your entire body, even your mind, allowing you to further relax, to attain a relaxed state, so that you can convey whatever message to yourself that you wish to convey.

To try this self hypnosis technique, simply sit or lie down on a comfortable chair or couch and close your eyes. Then, while breathing steadily, try to breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. Completely relax your body, visualize each muscle relaxing if you have to, and consciously relax your body from your toes to the top of your head. When you are completely relaxed, try to slow your breathing down even more, as low as you can get it. When you feel completely relaxed, that’s when you are in a prime hypnotized state and it’s at this time that the actual hypnosis method is used.

Other Self Hypnosis Techniques

There are, of course, many more self hypnosis techniques. The trick is finding the one that works best for you. Ask your local hypnotist what techniques you can use at home. It sure beats paying for that office visit. Or, search the internet to find if there are any self hypnosis techniques that other people use. You never know, the methods they use may just work for you.

However you decided to engage in self hypnosis, just make sure that you don’t have any expectations that are too high. Self hypnosis can help a lot of people with bad habits or to just help them relax but it shouldn’t take the place of seeing a professional if your case is a serious one. Hypnosis is a powerful tool and, if used correctly, can do wonders for breaking habits such as smoking and losing weight.

How do you perform self Hypnosis (on yourself)?

Can you hypnotize yourself and if you could, how would you snap yourself out of it. I want more self esteem and confidence and I thought I could hypnotize myself to get rid of any fears. Looking forward to any suggestions, thank you. Jen.

Hi Jen,

Write down all of your fears on paper. See which ones are real and which ones are not. This will help dispel many of the illusionary fears.

Next look at each fear and decide what you want to have in its place. If you are worried about people laughing at you, what would you prefer their response to be?

Then you can write an affirmation or positive statement out that strengthens your desired response. Just focus on one thing for 7-14 days and keep saying your affirmation and keep focusing in every situation on you being the way you want to be.

Spend 10-20 minutes a day relaxing and visualising yourself being the way you want to be and really feeling yourself performing this new behaviour and feeling fantastic because of this.

After 7-14 days you will notice changes in the way you are and then when you are happy that the new behaviour is unconscious, i.e. a part of you, move on to the next fear and deal with that.

That will help you to permanently get rid of your fears and be more confident in yourself.

I bought a self hypnosis CD for birth preparation. Can I listen to it yet?

I am 28 weeks pregnant. It says on the instructions to listen from 32 weeks onwards, without any other explanation. This company has other CD's for relaxation during pregnancy, suitable for earlier than 32 weeks. Do you think they are just promoting their own products or would it be safe to listen to my CD from earlier than 32 weeks?

Hypnosis…does it work to stop bad habits and does self hypnosis (cd) work as well?

I am looking to quit smoking and really want to succeed. I am looking into hypnosis in addition to patches. If I use hypnosis I want to know if the cds work as well as traditional sessions. I would prefer to hear from those that have personally used hypnosis to end bad habits or those trained to deal with such habits.

I used hypnosis for smoking cessation 15 years ago and have been smoke free since. The follow up sessions were not needed. The therapy works only if you are ready to quit.
Also I used a big rubber band on my wrist to let me know not to smoke. When I wanted a smoke, I would pull the band and let it snap my wrist on the inside. Nothing like a little aversion therapy to help you remember.

What is the best Light/Sound machine for use with self-hypnosis?

I used to have a pair of glasses with flashing lights and sounds, but this was a long time ago. What are the good brands/models nowadays? I like the ones with the very bright lights and that offer many different pre-set light programs. I prefer to use my own music, so it should allow me to do this. Thank you!!!

To have successful self hypnosis, one needs to understand just what it means. The hypnotic effect is accomplished by eliminating as much of the conscious level as one is capable. Having something that requires the use of the physical senses is not only contrary to the effort but, does not allow one to reach the desired level, for maximum effect.
